 Huell Howser —  ‘California Green’ PBS Special

Huell Howser is the host of several PBS shows about California treasures and conservation efforts. His folksy style is legendary. For many years, club member Bob Franz has tried to get Huell to do a show segment on the Western Bluebird recovery efforts in California.

 

Bob’s persistence has paid off! Huell’s team filmed a segment about our club and its efforts on April 19, 2007. This is so exciting!  Bob was kind enough to write up a description of the filming titled, ‘Bluebirds to be on KCET.’

 

The show will air on Tuesday June 19th and Tuesday July 24th, 2007 at 7:30 PM on KCET. We will be provided a DVD for those who miss it. More information will be provided as the dates draw nearer.

Non-Profit Status

The Southern CA Bluebird club is now an official non-profit 501(c)(3) organization.  I describe what this means to us on our blog. This would not have been possible without the assistance of the International Humanities Center in Malibu, CA. You can learn more about them by visiting their web site.

Dick Purvis Featured in OC Register

Our founder and legendary bluebirder Dick Purvis is featured on the front page of the OC Register today. The timing of this article could not have been better. Club member Susan Bulger has launched a statewide campaign to increase the awareness of the dangers of Easter grass and other non-natural nesting hazards.  She has asked supporters of our efforts to write letters to the editor of local newspapers highlighting the dangers people leave behind after Easter picnics. Dick, as usual, went above the call of duty. Congratulations Dick for a great piece.

New Donate Page

We have added a new page to the site to make it easier to make donations to our cause. We can even take credit cards thanks to our parent organization IHC.

Bob Franz Featured in OC Register

For the second time in a month, one of our members is featured in the OC Register. On Saturday, May 3, 2008, Bob Franz had a write-up in the local section. I have been unable to find the article on the OC Register site.
